Another great review for "Trove"

inD'Tale Magazine
InD'Tale Magazine has given "Trove  (The Katie Walsh Mysteries)" a 4 star review.

Sandy Ponton from InD'Tale says:

"Trove" is a tempting beginning to a promising series.
The steamy love story is cleverly threaded through a secondary tale of lies and intrigue and keeps the pages turning effortlessly. Interwoven relationships, a sinister threat, and the anticipation of discovery all contribute to a read worth delving into.

A fun game of cat and mouse, Trove delivers its treasure. X marks the spot!

Mount Washington Photos

Hello Everyone,

I know I’ve been quiet recently, but I assure you I’ve been writing. In fact, I’d like to share some great news. Recently I submitted a short story titled “Rescued” to NH Pulp Fiction. Each year NH Pulp Fiction publishes an anthology and this year’s theme is “Love Free or Die” an homage to New Hampshire’s official motto, “Live Free or Die.” Each story had to feature a story of “passion fulfilled and unrequited devotion — all deeply embedded in New Hampshire places and culture.” “Rescued” takes place at the home of the Cog Railway and “home of the world’s worst weather” – Mount Washington. My work was accepted and will be included in the anthology.

A direct result of this great opportunity is that my short story will continue in the first book, “Search” of my new series “Tempting the Fates.”

Elaine Isaak, the editor of this edition released the following:

It is with great pleasure that I announce the Table of Contents for Love Free or Die, the fourth volume in Rick Brousssard's New Hampshire Pulp Fiction anthology series, from Plaidswede Publishing, to be published February, 2014.

(Drumroll, please!)

Hot Summer Romance Giveaway Hop

Thanks to everyone for stopping by. I really enjoyed your comments.

And now . . . the winner of a print copy of my novel, TROVE is:

      LhasaLuma

Summer Lovin’
Just hearing that phrase, Summer Lovin’, and I’m back in the days of my youth. Life was good, sweet even way back when. And summer, ahhhh, well summertime was the absolute best!

Whenever I smell that distinctive aroma that can only be suntan lotion, I’m immediately transported to the beach where the water was always cold, the sand burning, and the guys smokin’ hot.

Those were the days . . .  the hot sun beating down on my friends and me as we lay on the beach towel slathered in lotion, the radio rocking the summer music, and me with a paperback romance in my hand (which I actually did read while checking out the buff guys strutting their stuff along the water’s edge).

I like my romance stories to challenge me, make my brain “sit up and take notice” and have to work at anticipating where the story is going. So, it shouldn’t surprise you when I reveal that I like to read romantic suspense, which not so coincidentally is what I like to write. I love the mystery of trying to figure out just where the plot is going to take me and I revel in the twists and turns that some authors write. And rest assured that I love to take my readers on an adventure and sweep them into another world.

My debut novel Trove, the first of The Katie Walsh Mysteries does just that. Starting in Boston, then jetting across the Atlantic to the Isle of Skye, with a brief stop in the West Country area of England, Trove will entertain you with an adventure that challenges long held legends and treats the reader to a complicated romance between Katie Walsh, an investigative mythologist, and Alec MacGowan, an archaeologist.

This was an enjoyable story with just the right mix of mystery, murder and romance. I loved the chemistry between Alec MacGowan and Katie Walsh and I really wanted them to be together. I also loved how it spanned between Boston and Scotland. I enjoy reading mysteries and I especially have a soft spot for stories that take place in Scotland, so I found this to be the perfect mix for me to really sit back and lose myself in. Ms. Montgomery provided me with plenty of twists and turns in her storyline to keep me riveted to my seat and she sprinkled it with a budding romance between Alec and Katie to make my heart swoon. I enjoyed this book so much that I found myself burning through the pages to see what was going to happen next. If you’re in the market for a book that contains intrigue, mystery, romance and murder, than look no further. Nicely done, Ms. Montgomery!  -- Diana Coyle, Night Owl Reviews

Alec MacGowan, a handsome and sexy archaeologist, is in search of finding the person who murdered his friend. He’ll stop at nothing to find the killer. Katie Walsh, a beautiful mythologist in search of Norland, lends a hand to Alec to see if she can assist him in finding out who killed his friend. These two have a past together and working with each other seems to have reignited the sparks that burn between them. Are Alec and Katie able to find out who the killer is before he strikes again – this time making one of them the victim?

Excerpt from Trove

Katie looked so lost sitting on the edge of the bed with her head bent forward. Alec was surprised how quickly she’d responded to him, surrendered herself. He was a fool for letting it go too far. He put her reputation at risk, but he couldn’t stop himself. For five years he’d thought of her, kicking himself for agreeing to her no-names rule. Five frigging years of missing her, her touch, her scent, and now he’d probably screwed it up big time. His plan was simple. Get the job and get the runes translated. Once he had them, he planned on leaving. Then he’d bring the murderer out in the open. It should’ve worked. Yet since the moment he’d seen her at the conference, the plan had taken on a life of its own. He still needed the translation, and he still needed to leave, but he didn’t want to now. She was back in his life, not exactly like he wanted, but she was here. Only now, he felt like he’d hung a flashing neon sign over her head. She didn’t deserve this, didn’t ask to be used the way he was manipulating her. Robert was right. She deserved to be told the truth, deserved to make the decision to help him, not be forced because he was her boss. Like it or not, the stakes had risen.

The Legend and Lure of Atlantis

The Atlantis Legend

The lure of Atlantis is like the call of a Siren for many. It’s a vision of a utopian world that was rumored to be technologically and culturally advanced.

If we believe the tantalizing tidbits that have been scattered through time and history, then Atlantis was real and existed about 9,000 years before Plato. Since Plato died around 348 BCE, we can date the existence of Atlantis at approximately 11,000 BCE.

This is rather critical when we consider what was occurring on a planetary scale at that point in history. Earth was emerging from the latest Great Ice Age. And, it would have been roughly in a position that placed it at the opposite side of the Milky Way Galaxy, near the galactic center, halfway through the orbit of one galactic year, which takes 26,000 years to complete.

Many people were waiting for the fulfillment of what the common interpretation of the Mayan prophecy of December 21, 2012 declared. Words of catastrophic changes on Earth were counted down in a frenzied rush almost like staring down the oncoming train light while standing in the rail bed.

The legend of Atlantis that has survived and come down to us tells of the absolute and immediate destruction of the Atlantean civilization. What if the prophecy was correct, but the galactic center was at the other side of the galaxy. Was this what destroyed Atlantis? Was it a burst of radiation that connected with the power stations of Atlantis, overloading the power grid, setting of a catastrophic cascade?

And, what if, since they were purported to be technologically advanced, they were able to predict the coming catastrophe and prepare for it? Could they have evacuated their homeland and scattered themselves across the globe? Could they have opened a dimensional portal and stepped through, waiting for the right time to return? And what if, they were, as legend portrays, half human and half alien?

Join Katie Walsh and her colleagues as they attempt to get to the truth of Atlantis. The story starts with “Trove  (The Katie Walsh Mysteries Book #1)” and continues with “Harbinger  (The Katie Walsh Mysteries Book #2).

Book Excerpt
Alec MacGowan watched the woman and the interplay with the red-haired male, appreciating the genuine warmth he detected in their greeting. The affection between them suggested more than friends. Lovers perhaps? She was exactly as Robert had described her: petite, about five feet tall without the killer heels, chestnut hair, sparkling eyes that were noticeable even behind her glasses or maybe because of them. His appreciation of her grew as he noted that she had curves in all the right places, though Robert neglected to mention that. She had a woman’s figure, something to hold onto, sink his fingers into. He hated the way modern women tried to deny the luscious curves that nature endowed them with.

He noted that she was not a staid academic as most PhDs he’d dealt with seemed to be. She was not one to hide behind the academic uniform of dark man-tailored suits. She was wearing a red dress that accented her figure, hugging and folding against her body suggestively, while the other females were dressed in variations of their unspoken dress code. Most researchers were rather bookish or totally obnoxious and angry at the world, though he had to concede that the research profession was very cutthroat. Competent people were forced to fight each other to grab their piece of a finite amount of financing. But she… she seemed alive. Robert was right, though. She didn’t look like a pushover. She was definitely in charge of the huge man with her, or was it more that he was protective of her, indulging her, but protecting her?

He watched her as she headed toward the bar and him. As she neared, he started towards them and then froze. No, it can’t be her. It couldn’t be KitKat, the woman with whom he spent the night five years ago.

His anonymous lover had a name and her name was Dr. Katie Walsh. Damn, this makes everything more complicated.

He exhaled, steadied himself, and stepped in front of her, effectively and totally blocking her path as she neared the bar with the red-headed male in her wake.

“Excuse me, but aren’t you Dr. Katie Walsh of the Nordstrom Institute?”

She halted, forced to stop abruptly. She teetered in her high heels, grabbing the red-haired man’s arm to avoid ending up in a heap on the floor. She raised her head and scowled. He watched her closely as she scanned his face for recognition. He mused that it may have been difficult since her glasses had slid down from the bridge of her little nose and were now resting on the tip of it, clearly in danger of continuing their downward path.

“Yes, I am. I’m sorry, but do I know you? You look somewhat familiar, but I can’t seem to recall your name.”

“We have a mutual acquaintance, Robert Baines.”

“Really?” she said, tilting her head slightly, releasing her scowl at the mention of Robert. “How do you know Robert?”

“Actually, he’s my half-brother.” He added, “My older half-brother by three years. I’m Dr. Alec MacGowan, archaeologist.” He reached over, and with his forefinger, he gently pushed her glasses up to the bridge of her nose then nodded his head slightly. “At your service.”
